Anti-Equality Amendment Backers To Plan Strategy in Wednesday Conference Call

In an open letter posted on the website of ProtectMarriage.com, Jim Garlow, the pastor of Skyline Church in San Diego, has invited “pastors, friends and Christian leaders” from across California to join a Pastors Strategic Conference Call on Wednesday, June 25, at 10 am (PDT).

According to the letter:

Be assured that the information shared will be extremely beneficial for the future of the cause of Christ in California.  Saying it another way, it is worth canceling all other appointments in order to be present at one of these locations.

The letter promises that “Christian attorneys will instruct and guide” participants on legal and public relations issues. It also includes talking points, instructions for responding to media inquiries and guidelines for media appearances (e.g., put a “smile in your eyes” when on camera, “don’t quote Bible verses to a secular audience”), as well as a discussion of events planned during the upcoming initiative campaign.

Among those events will be a 40-day statewide fast from September 25 to November 2.  Individuals are invited to fast for all 40 days or a portion of them, alone or in team “relays.” At the end of the 40 days, a 12-hour prayer rally will be held at San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium on Saturday, November 1. It will involve:

…men and women of God from every denomination — all united to create a climate of ongoing prayer and fasting in our state and across the nation. We will cover many details regarding prayer and fasting in the June 25 statewide conference call. In our hearts, we know that what is really needed is more than a voting victory in November. What is needed is revival and an avalanche of Holy Spirit-given evangelism. That is why we pray.

For further details, recipients of the letter are referred to www.protectmarriagesd.com, a website registered to an Internet domain proxy service in Scottsdale, Arizona, less than 2 miles from the offices of the Alliance Defense Fund. The ADF is a Christian legal firm, founded by James Dobson, D. James Kennedy, and other Christian Right leaders. It has played a central role in promoting antigay laws and policies.
